Radon Services

Airtech offers landlords and homeowners a complete solution to help protect residents from the risks caused by Radon gas in the home. Domestic exposure to radon increases the risk of lung cancer, with 1,000 to 2,000 deaths each year estimated to be caused by exposure to the gas. Since Landlords have a responsibility to their residents under Duty of Care and the Housing Act to provide a safe home, radon is a major consideration for housing providers. Airtech has 30 years of experience in radon prevention and can offer a full range of products and services, from radon testing to full remediation of housing stock.

Radon Mapping – For housing providers seeking to test their housing stock for Radon, we can map the properties in a priority order of Radon’s existence (from highest to lowest readings) to help ascertain the high risk properties requiring radon testing.

Radon Testing –To ensure accurate testing Airtech leave test pods in properties for a three-month period to help ensure correct radon readings are collected. For housing providers, Airtech can test housing stock for radon through an efficiently organised programme to ensure all required properties are tested within necessary time scales.

Airtech recommends testing using Radon detectors which are small unobtrusive pods placed in a property. These detectors are left in place, usually in the lounge and master bedroom, for three months. Once collected the small piece of plastic inside the device is processed and the level of Radon is assessed expressed in Becquerels per cubic metre (Bq/m3). If a home is above 200Bq/m3 then remediation measures should be taken.

Radon remediation – If Radon levels are high enough to require remediation Airtech may recommend installing positive input ventilation (PIV), or an active Radon sump fitted with a fan to help reduce indoor Radon concentrations

This may result in one property being fitted with a simple vent whilst an adjacent property may require a comprehensive system of a Radon sump with pump. Specialist knowledge is required for the choice of appropriate measure.

Radon servicing –  We offer servicing of positive input ventilation  to ensure they remain in good working order to maintain maximum efficiency. Regular servicing of PIV and  Radon products (sumps) is required to keep Radon at safe levels. This will also help stop the build up of grease and dirt damaging the systems and avoid future breakdowns.
